This stretch of Sims and Coomer is scheduled to be resurfaced this summer, as is the driveway to the EMS garage.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">MORENCI \u2014 At its March 10 meeting,\u00a0the Morenci City Council awarded the contract for this summer\u2019s road work projects to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kbasphaltsealcoating.com\/\">K&amp;B Asphalt Sealcoating<\/a> out of Adrian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The project includes mill-and-overlay resurfacing on four streets, plus the driveway of the Emergency Medical Services facility on West Coomer Street.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The areas that will be resurfaced are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">North Summit Street between Coomer and Greely streets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Page Street between Coomer and Locust streets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Sims Highway between Coomer and Main streets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The approximately 325 feet of West Coomer Street that runs from Sims Highway to the EMS facility on Coomer.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The driveway to the EMS facility itself.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">A mill-and-overlay resurfacing is less involved than a complete reconstruction of a road. In this project, a 2-inch layer will be removed from the surface of each street, and then new asphalt will be put down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In addition, six crosswalks that are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act will be installed \u2014 three on Page Street, two on Summit, and one on West Main.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">K&amp;B Asphalt was the lowest of six bidders for the project at $248,951.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Half of the cost will be paid through a Michigan Department of Transportation grant and the city will pay the other half, city administrator and clerk Jeff Bell said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In his report to the city council, Bell noted that the project cost is less than originally anticipated.
