Teen killed in Medina Township crash

MEDINA TWP. — Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded on the morning of July 4 to a crash at the intersection of Morey Hwy (M-156) and Medina Road in Medina Township.

The call came in around 9 a.m. Preliminary investigation indicated that a 15-year-old boy from the Medina area was riding a small e-bike east on Medina Road when he ran the stop sign at Morey Highway and was struck by a southbound semitrailer. The teen was transported by Hudson EMS to ProMedica Charles and Virgina Hickman Hospital, where he died from his injuries. His family was present at the scene and accompanied him to the hospital.

The driver of the truck, a 31-year-old Morenci man, was not injured.

Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have been involved in the crash. The e-bike rider was not wearing a helmet. The crash remains under investigation by the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team. The Lenawee County Victim Services Unit is providing assistance to the boy’s family.
