MORENCI — Morenci resident David Green was walking through the town’s Oak Grove Cemetery last winter when he thought to himself, “There must be 20 different species of trees in this place.”

He discovered that his estimate was low, and now he’s ready to lead the public on a tree walk to show what he’s found. The walk will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 15.

Morenci schools seek bond issue to pay for facility improvements

MORENCI — The Morenci school district is asking voters to extend the district’s current bond levy out for a maximum of 30 years. The extension would raise $17.4 million to pay for upgrades at both the elementary and middle/high school buildings.

The bond proposal will go before voters on May 6. All district residents, regardless of whether they live in the city or a township, will vote at Morenci City Hall.
